The ultimate goal for skin regeneration is to build a fully functional skin with appendages such as hairs and sweat glands. We exploit knowledge of skin stem cell biology, specifically the signaling and mechanical requirement for sweat gland development, and apply to the bioengineering design of artificial tissues.
Our laboratory is also in the core of the NYU Program of Regenerative Medicine, involved in a collaborative effort to investigate the molecular mechanisms in digit regeneration. We have established close relationships with various clinical departments within NYU Langone Health and aim to translate basic research discoveries into clinical applications to directly benefit patients in need.
